Looks like we’ll be back to school tomorrow, as per the note from HRSB below, please use extreme caution if dropping off and picking up your children by car.

All HRSB schools will be open on Wednesday, February 18. Buses will be operating although drivers will be using their discretion on side roads.

In anticipation of opening, the board recognizes that weather conditions are not expected to improve significantly in the next few days. As a result, many streets, sidewalks and school grounds will remain ice-covered despite our best efforts to clear, salt and sand.

We are asking for the public’s cooperation to protect the safety of our students and staff as we resume operations. Our schools are going to be as vigilant as possible in the supervision of students, especially at arrival and dismissal times. We have advised that students should remain inside for recess and lunch until conditions improve.

We understand and appreciate that many parents will drive their children to school in these conditions. Parents should anticipate that school driveways and parking lots will be smaller and narrower than usual. Typical drop off procedures for students could be impacted. Please allow extra time if you are transporting your child to school and know that you may need to park off site and walk your child to the school doors as unnecessary vehicles may be restricted from entering school property.

We ask that anyone driving on streets around schools do so with caution as snow banks near driveway entrances and exits may pose line-of-sight challenges.

We appreciate the public’s support. Our Operations staff, including school caretakers and custodians, have been working tirelessly over the last few days to make areas around schools as safe as possible.

See you tomorrow!!
