Ready to hit the pavement? Walk-A-Thon Friday, Oct. 9th

Date: October 2, 2015 Author: Cathy Gibson Categories: News & Events

We kick off our First (Annual) LMST Walk-A-Thon on Friday, October 9th!

As part of the physical education curriculum all students at LMST (whether or not they collect pledges) will participate in a school Walk-a-Thon. Through this activity students will collect food for the food bank and raise money for charity and our school.

During the Walk-a-Thon students will walk throughout the LMST neighbourhood for about an hour. The route snakes through more than 10 streets and 5 city blocks and students’ progress will be monitored by LMST staff and our School Liaison Officer, Cst. Moran.

Students are encouraged to canvass friends and family to get pledges for cash donations prior to the event. For each sponsor of $1 or more the student receives a ballot for a prize draw. Prizes so far include class pizza parties, bouncy castles, and gift cards.

While en route, students will collect food bank donations from our community neighbours who will have received notices requesting they place non-perishable food items (marked “LMST”) on their porch or steps. Students are also encouraged to bring in a non-perishable food item if they wish.
